Q: When can I use my driveway?
A: After we rip out the old driveway, we put down the RCA. Depending on sub grade may need up to 4 to 6 weeks of settlement. You can drive on this as soon as possible and often as this compacts it. When the blacktop is put down, you should not use the driveway for at least 3 days (a full week during the summer).
Q: Summer driveway use?
A: You do not want to use lawn furniture or bikes with kickstands on hot asphalt as it will melt through the asphalt.
Q: When should cracks be sealed?
A: The sooner the better. Keep moisture from entering the asphalt - which is what will happen when cracks are not sealed.
Q: Will the price of Oil affect asphalt prices?
A: Yes. The price of asphalt will always be affected by oil prices, but paving companies with multi-site projects have more buying power at asphalt plants, which means valuable savings for clients.
Q: What questions should I ask when getting estimates from paving contractors?
A: Some suggested questions could be:
Q: What is the life expectancy of a well paved driveway?
A: There are many factors to be considered which are beyond a paving contractors control. Type of soil, water damage from a flood and/or ice, traffic on the driveway. A well paved driveway should last approximately 10 years.
Q: What does "resurface" mean?
A: There is no excavation or repair done. A top layer of asphalt is paved over existing driveway.
Q: What does "remove and replace" mean?
A: This means the old driveway is excavated and removed. A new base will be created and compressed, than the asphalt is added and compressed.
Q: What is the environmental impact of asphalt paving?
A: If you have any environmental concerns, please let us know so that we can suggest the best paving materials for your needs.
